Source Healing
What is my source? What healing do we all need? Whenever I look at mundane signs and posts I try to connect them with my sweet Lord. We are always going to come across these signs and posts as we wander the earth. So how do we connect all this to the divine Lord? For any healing to happen, we must first be aware of what is wrong with us. If we find out we have an illness then we can work towards healing our body. We understand that our source is the Lord and we must practice to connect everything to the source, the connection of the soul to the super soul.
We are infinitesimal souls defined by our scriptures as eternal and indestructible. Our source is Lord Sri Krishna who as the super soul sits in our heart. The soul and super soul travel together through numerous material bodies, specifically eighty-four lakh (8.4 million) different species through which it roams about till it gets a human body. This human body has reasoning power and ability to learn and lovingly serve the Lord. In the journey of the soul, we collect various impressions called samskaras and a karmic load by our various actions. Depending on what we have collected over lifetimes in the birth and death cycle we find ourselves in joyful and miserable conditions of life.
In Hindu philosophies, samskaras are a basis for the development of karma theory. According to various schools of Indian philosophy, every action, intent or preparation by an individual leaves a samskara (impression, impact, or imprint) in the deeper structure of the person's mind. These impressions then await volitional fruition in that individual's future, in the form of hidden expectations, circumstances or a subconscious sense of self-worth. These Samskaras manifest as tendencies, karmic impulses, subliminal impressions, habitual potencies or innate dispositions. In ancient Indian texts, the theory of Samskara explains how and why human beings remember things, and the effect that memories have on people's suffering, happiness and contentment. (Wikipedia)
As I saw this sign on the street it brought up these questions and therefore I started digging into the answers. The healing of the soul needs to happen by changing these samskaras and stopping the cycle of karmic reactions. Deliberate action now, will give us pure good samskaras in this very birth and our future lives. These impressions will further lead to good action. Initially when one gets this knowledge one must take action to purify our samskaras and heal from all the damage done in previous lives. Some ways of creating good samskaras is to engage oneself in reading scriptures, meditation, going on pilgrimages, practicing yoga, doing virtuous and righteous deeds, helping the poor and having compassion towards those in need. Hearing temple bells, eating sanctified blessed food which has been offered to the Lord or seeing the Lord can purify the mind and change our impressions. Devotional activities are particularly powerful as they destroy all karmic reactions and in particular meditation on the Lord’s holy names.
When we perform devotional activities and our senses get purified we start to see that the things we desire are all connected to the divine. We cease to want things for our own sensory pleasure but instead desire the very same things for offering to the Lord. When we do so the impressions we have are changing deep down within the layers of our mind. All our senses can be purified. So what we see, hear, touch, smell and taste is very important. All the senses need to be engaged in somehow serving the Lord. The tongue is the hardest to control as we want to speak nonsense and eat rubbish things that degrade our entire being. By chanting and singing joyfully we can achieve the highest result of controlling this wicked tongue as we engage it in the right way. Along with the tongue the ears are engaged in hearing the mantra as well and the mind is engaged in remembrance of the Lord. This method of meditation has been given to us by Lord Caitanya which is particularly beneficial for this age of Kaliyuga. The holy names are then “The Source”. They have been invested by the power of the Lord. The mind which carries the previous samskaras and karmic load are destroyed and replaced by new samskaras. As the mind and heart are getting purified we start to feel and experience Love of God. Our surrender and faith increases day by day. This healing of the mind and soul is needed and it comes from the source, The Holy Names.
