Messenger of Love
The Golden volcano of Love is Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu and the love outpouring from His heart is the lava from this volcano. He is the Messenger of Love, the love in the mood of separation. In the scriptures this mood of separation is told to be the highest mood of love for Sri Sri Radha Krishna. We are separated from our dear-most beloved Lord. As a tiny living entity we want to enjoy this material world separate from Lord Krishna, not knowing that this world is temporary and full of miseries. Now, by the causeless mercy of Sri Guru, we have found this knowledge and to follow in the footsteps of Sri Guru we must first purify our hearts to feel that forgotten Love; then we can become a Messenger of Love. We can only give what we have, so develop that Love and then take that message to every living entity.
What is Love? Service is Love. Glorification of God is Love. Living a life of discipline for the Lord is also Love. How do we attain this Love? Lord Krishna says in Srimad Bhagavatam 11.19.20-24
Firm faith in the blissful narrations of My pastimes, constant chanting of My glories, unwavering attachment to ceremonial worship of Me, praising Me through beautiful hymns, great respect for My devotional service, offering obeisances with the entire body, performing first-class worship of My devotees, consciousness of Me in all living entities, offering of ordinary, bodily activities in My devotional service, use of words to describe My qualities, offering the mind to Me, rejection of all material desires, giving up wealth for My devotional service, renouncing material sense gratification and happiness, and performing all desirable activities such as charity, sacrifice, chanting, vows and austerities with the purpose of achieving Me — these constitute actual religious principles, by which those human beings who have actually surrendered themselves to Me automatically develop love for Me. Lord Krishna says we will automatically develop love for Him. That is His causeless mercy. Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu, who is Krishna Himself, appeared 540 years ago to teach us this love in the mood of a devotee. He gave us the holy names of the Lord and started the sankirtan movement. The holy names have the potency to purify us and infuse that love in our hearts.
Let us follow His teachings, experience the separation of love from our Lord, and become messengers of that love by following in His footsteps. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu gave this instruction as follows in Caitanya Charitamrta Madhya 7.128
yāre dekha, tāre kaha ‘kṛṣṇa’-upadeśa
āmāra ājñāya guru hañā tāra’ ei deśaInstruct everyone to follow the orders of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa as they are given in the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. In this way become a spiritual master and try to liberate everyone in this land.
Sri Gurudev, Messenger of Love
The best example of this is in front of our eyes, Sri Gurudev, a Messenger of Love. Through his body, mind, and words we can see how he spreads love and distributes it to everyone through the holy names. His exemplary character is unseen in the three worlds. His very first instruction to me personally was that there is no other way, no other way, no other way to attain perfection except through the chanting of the holy names. There is enough hate in this material world. What we lack is love. Chant the holy names purely without anarthas (things unwanted) and aparadhas (offenses) and experience that Love in separation. Then share it with all who you see in this existence, people, animals, and nature alike.
