The Sun is Always Shining Above the Clouds
One may have heard the expression the sun is always shining above the clouds. In the material world the sun rises every day on a schedule and sets at a given time. Regardless, it never fails to show up. We can guarantee that the sun will rise. In the physical sense clouds can cover the sun and therefore the nourishment we get from the sun is temporarily covered up. The clouds represent difficulties that arise in our life as these clouds can keep us in darkness.
Similarly we are wandering through life on different planets in the darkness as the sun of Krishna consciousness is covered by the clouds of ignorance (maya) in our heart. Many lifetimes may pass before we meet a sadhu, guru, or vaishnava who may shine their causeless mercy upon us. Krishna is the sun and He sends His mercy through guru as the ray of the sun through the clouds. Krishna as the supersoul is always there with the soul, life after life. “Just as biological life depends on sunlight, our existence depends on the Absolute Truth, Who is ultimately a Person, the source of everything, the source of our life” - source
CC Madhya 22.31
kṛṣṇa — sūrya-sama; māyā haya andhakāra
yāhāṅ kṛṣṇa, tāhāṅ nāhi māyāra adhikāra
“Kṛṣṇa is compared to sunshine, and māyā is compared to darkness. Wherever there is sunshine, there cannot be darkness. As soon as one takes to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, the darkness of illusion (the influence of the external energy) will immediately vanish - source
Caught in the cloud cover of maya we are stuck in the modes of passion and ignorance which cause vices like lust, anger, and greed to develop. Without the shelter of Krishna it is impossible to get out of the darkness of maya. Krishna shines the rays of His causeless mercy and we can come into the mode of goodness. Even when we take to Krishna consciousness practice can sometimes get despondent, we can get discouraged, or lose our enthusiasm; this is caused by this illusory energy. Maya is so strong that she continually tests us, again and again. It’s always good to remember that the sun is always shining above the clouds. Very soon the sun of Krishna’s loving rays will shine through the clouds of Maya.
